Day 2 Update

2 day movie montage

Today was a very proud day for me. I have the coolest kid ever.

When we arrived at Winterplace this morning, one of the ski instructors said to me..
"What do you want us to do with him when he gets tired because no child under 6 every lasts more than an hour on a snow board... its just too heavy for them"
In my mind as proud as I am I wanted to say, way to go with the whole defeatist attitude before he even gets out there, but instead I said, "If he gets tired call me, but this is what he wants to do, that's why we're here."
"Okay" she said, "but you will probably get a call around 11".

He was really excited and despite going to bed at midnight when we arrived last night, he was ready to go. We arrived at 8:45 and sat around for an hour before they started getting the kids ready to go outside.

I watched from a distance for a little bit and noticed that he was doing quite well from my perspective. Then I took a refresher lesson on my ski board or snow blades or whatever you want to call them to occupy myself for a while.

At noon when I got back, Conner didn't want to take a break for lunch and kept asking where his teacher was so that he could go back out. Steve (his instructor) explained to me that Conner was doing great, but didn't have the leg strength to move his board in a turn. So he would do all the movements that he was supposed to do and the board would just go straight. That was at noon.

After lunch while waiting for the instructor, I wanted to get some pics of him so I took him out to the ski wee area to see how he is doing.

When Steve arrived (no other snow boarders signed up today so Conner had an instructor to himself) he was surprised that Conner wanted to keep going, but as long as he did, he would take him. I tagged along for the remainder of the day. Conner still can't carve :) but he can maneuver.

The bigger the wipe out, the bigger the smile, he was a trooper.

After our last run, Conner cried all the way back to the ski school because he didn't want to stop for the day. No one could believe it. Steve told me most 4 year olds start crying early in the day because they want to stop. Said when he had his first hard fall, he said, "Are you alright??" and Conner said loudly with a huge smile Yeah!! Steve encouraged me to keep Conner boarding if he remains this jazzed about going. Should be big enough and strong enough to "tear it up"

I'm so proud. The girls said, Conner surprised all of us, this is a first, as usual he made some new friends and showed what a tough little boy he is. It's a good thing he doesn't know he's a little boy.

Below.. Conner was knocked out about 5 minutes from the resort.

Tomorrow should be fun.. just Conner and me.

Day 2

It was a beautiful day, sun was shining, snow conditions were better, the snow was faster and we started out late after sleeping in a bit and hanging out. We spent most of the day on lift #4 because there is a jumpon panorama that all the snowboarders go over, and of course, my little expert had to be one of them. We took an hour break for lunch and ended up staying on the slopes until 6:45PM

All day people were rooting him on, and telling him how cute he is and saying you're better than me. By the afternoon, Conner was waving to the people on the chair lift as they yelled to him flying by and going over his jump on every run... we even had to walk back up and hit it again because he crashed before getting there a few times.

My favorite moment of the day, and I wish I had this on video, was him actually hopping at the top of the jump and catching mini air (very mini air), when he got to the bottom of the jump he raised his arms in the air and shouted woo hoo. The other boarders that were hanging out at the jump watching him, were also taking pictures and cheering him on. There will be no living with him now ;) That moment as well as him saying thank you to the lift attendant everytime we got on the chair lift, and excuse me to the people he passed. Little Mr. Manners. Very proud.

In the car when we were leaving he said mommy everyone was watching me... and I said, why do you think they were doing that?? He said, cause Im cute... Little Bugger

I must have told him this is the last run about 5 runs before we actually quit. It's hard to explain to him that his legs are tired and that's why he can't steer anymore. He was terribly upset when we left. I underestimated how much he would like this sport.

Here are some pics from Saturday.
